Temperatures are rising as the summer months quickly approach. Below are a few tips to keep in mind as you prepare to spend extended amounts of time outside during this warm period:

Dress accordingly. If the forecast calls for hot temperatures and abundant sunshine, light weight and light colored clothing is your best option to help keep cool.

Come to the course prepared with plenty of water. Water is available on some courses, however, many do not have enough and it may run out prior to your arrival. Coming prepared will give you the best opportunity to stay hydrated.

Sunscreen, sunscreen and more sunscreen. Our partner, Sun SafeTee, would like to remind everyone to always re-apply at the turn. Proper use of sunscreen will help you mitigate the damaging effects of the sun.

Bring a few extra dollars along. Having an extra $5 on hand will allow you to purchase water and Gatorade when needed. Don’t put yourself in a situation in which you cannot stay hydrated.

How do I know if I’m dehydrated?

Symptoms of dehydration include:

Little or no urine, or urine that is darker than usual

Dry mouth

Sleepiness or fatigue

Extreme thirst

Headache

Confusion

Feeling dizzy or lightheaded

No tears when crying

Don’t wait until you are dehyrdrated to act. It can be hard to recognize when you’re dehydrated, especially as you age. Actively prevent dehydration by drinking plenty of water.

How much water should I drink each day?

The most common recommendation is between 6 to 8, 8-ounce glasses of water each day. However, different people need different amounts of water to stay hydrated. Some may need more than 8 glasses to stay hydrated and healthy.

Rickie Fowler- 2012 Wells Fargo Championship Winner

Rickie Fowler, SCPGA Junior Tour alum, captured his first PGA Tour win this past weekend at the Wells Fargo Championship at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Coming into the final round, Fowler was in sixth place and three strokes off the lead at 11 under par. Rickie fired a final round 69 (3 under par) to get into a playoff with Rory McIlroy and D.A. Points. Fowler birdied the first hole of the playoff to capture the victory.

Fowler has a knack of making big putts, like he did at the age of 15 at the California State Junior Amateur at PGA of Southern California Golf Club- the Legends course on August 1-3 2005. Rickie fired 65+65+65=195 (21 under par). It was only a matter of time till Rickie won on the PGA Tour.

Last weekend, April 28-29, 2012, the SCPGA Junior Tour’s Toyota Tour Cup was at Pala Mesa Resort. Players enjoyed the magnificent oak, elm, and sycamore trees that lined one of the finest manicured courses in San Diego County. This two-day event turned out to be one of the most grueling and closest finishes thus far this year. Thank you to all participants, parents and spectators for making the trip to Fallbrook.

Boys

1st Place- Sahith Theegala, Chino Hills

Sahith, a 2015 graduate, signed two consistent, low rounds of 70+71=141 (3 under par) giving him a one shot victory. Sahith was on fire from the start birdying his first three holes and posting a day one, front nine score of 33 (3 under par). Although this is his first win of the year, Sahith is a Toyota Tour Cup veteran and is often in contention.

2nd Place- Kk Limbhasut, Loma Linda

Kk, a 2014 graduate, barely missed a playoff for first after shooting two great rounds of 70+72=142 (2 under par). Kk was also hot out of the gate and matched Sahith’s opening day, front nine score of 33 (3 under par). Unfortunately, two bogeys down the stretch during his final round made it difficult to keep up.

3rd Place- Gordon Neale, Rancho Santa Margarita

Gordon, a 2015 graduate, took third with a respectable weekend total of 74+71=145 (1 over par). If not for a high number on hole 15 in his opening round, Gordon would have been in contention Sunday afternoon.

Girls

1st Place- Elisabeth Bernabe, Anaheim Hills

Elisabeth, a 2013 graduate, took first place with a weekend total of 72+72=144 (even par). Her consistent play never brought her above par throughout the course of the weekend. This is Elisabeth’s third Toyota Tour Cup win this year out of just three starts and she could not be more comfortable with the top of the podium.

2nd Place- Hannah Kim, Chula Vista

Hannah, a 2014 graduate, fired a 73+72=145 (1 over par) to finish one stroke behind first. After triple bogeying the eight hole, Hannah battled hard in her last nine holes to post a second round score of even par putting the pressure on Elisabeth.

3rd Place- Lydia Choi, Beverly Hills

Lydia, a 2014 graduate, took third with a weekend total of 72+77=149 (5 over par). Lydia started the second round tied for the lead after posting an opening round of 72 (even par), but struggled a bit during her final round. Toyota Tour Cup regulars and staff know Lydia as one of the most considerate and respectful players on the tour.

Notable Low Rounds

Boys- Sahith Theegala and Kk Limbhasut, 70 (2 Under Par)
Girls- Jamie Harada, 71 (1 Under Par)

The SCPGA Junior Tour would like to extend an extra special thank you to our sponsors.

Also, thank you Jeff Hall, First Assistant Golf Professional, and Al Villicana, Golf Course Superintendant, of Pala Mesa Resort for your dedication to junior golf and providing such great accommodations and course conditions for this event.

Finally, thank you SCPGA Staff and Rules Officials for your hard work and dedication to the Toyota Tour Cup series.

The latest Toyota Tour Cup held April 14th-15th, 2012 on Robinson Ranch’s Valley Course was arguably the most challenging TTC thus far this season. The traitorously narrow fairways, coastal live oaks, and less than favorable weather conditions gave players all they could handle. Thank you all participants, parents, and spectators for making the trip to Santa Clarita!

Boys

1st Place- Thomas Lim, Moorpark

Thomas, a 2013 graduate, shot an impressive 69+73=142 (2 under par) giving him a comfortable victory. His win can be contributed to consistent play, which is more than difficult at Robinson Ranch where one errant shot can remove you from the leader-board. Great opening nine of 33 Thomas!

2nd Place- Jake Andl, Westlake Village

Jake, a 2015 graduate, took a close second shooting a 72+73=145 (1 over par). Jake battled hard but lost each of his birdies to a bogey in his even par opening round.

3rd Place- Blake Barens, Villa Park

Blake, a 2013 graduate, made the podium after firing a 76+70=146 (2 over par). Blake struggled a bit on the first day making 8 bogies, but came back with a 70 (2 under par) final round.

Congratulations Lawrence Tuhad for posting the low round of the tournament (68- 4 under par).

Girls

1st Place- Shiyang Fan, San Diego

Shiyang, a 2015 graduate, shot a fantastic 75+73=148 (4 over par). Her strong final round including a 36 (even par) back nine was essential with Pailin Ruttanasupagid nipping at her heels.

2nd Place- Pailin Ruttanasupagid, Bangkok, Thailand

Pailin, a 2014 graduate, just missed first place after shooting 78+76=150 (6 over par). Pailin’s final round of 72 (even par) was the low round of the tournament.

3rd Place- Kelly Lee, Chino Hills

Kelly, a 2016 graduate, made the podium after shooting 78+73=151 (7 over par). Kelly had a great showing especially after coming back in the final round with a gutty 73 (one over par).

The SCPGA Junior Tour would like to extend an extra special thank you to our sponsors.

Also, thank you Larry Atlas, Head Golf Professional, and Alberto Munoz, Superintendent, of Robinson Ranch as well as the rest of the Robinson Ranch team for graciously hosting this event and providing a championship golf course in pristine condition.

Finally, thank you SCPGA Staff and Rules Officials for your hard work and dedication to the Toyota Tour Cup series.
