Northern California led after the morning Foursome matches by a point total of 4 1/2 to 1/2 but Southern California was fired up to win the afternoon individual matches. Southern California needed 7 points to win the cup and victory was within our grasp. Southern California’s Rico Hoey won four holes in a row to bring his match to the 18th hole, but Southern California fell just short of winning the Cup with a total of 7 points to Northern California’s 8 points.

Girls Cal Cup Team Matches – June 26, 2011; Poppy Hills Golf Club; Pebble Beach, CA

The girls battled hard on the challenging Poppy Hills Golf Course however, Northern California defeated Southern California 5 1/2 to 3 1/2. Amy Alston and Beth Lillie each won their singles match 1 up. Alston and Jordanne Barr won their Fourball Match 1 up, with B. Lillie and Allison Lillie halving their Match. Congrats to the girls on a great day on the course, they fought hard and we’ll definitely get Northern California next year!

Team Southern California started strong, tied for first with Northern California after Round One. They played consistent the next two rounds, but couldn’t fight off the charge of the other teams, and finished in fifth place, 19 shots behind the winning team from Northern California. Girls Mary Cave Cup Team Matches – August 15-17, 2011; Sycuan Resort; San Diego, CA

The Southern California Teams battled hard on the Oak Glen Course at the Sycuan Resort with the team of Raegan Bremer and Lydia Choi finishing 2nd at -8, three-strokes behind the Northern California, and the team of Minjia Luo and Allie Zech finishing T-7. Birdies were hard to find during the two-day, 36-hole 4-ball event. Individual finishes were: Third – Lydia Choi, Fourth – Raegan Bremer, T-5 – Allie Zech, T-8 – Minjia Luo.

Oak Valley Cup Matches – July 5-6, 2011; Oak Valley GC – Beaumont, CA
The 4th Annual Oak Valley Cup was played last week at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont, CA. The Oak Valley Cup is a team match play event between Southern California and China. On day one the Southern California team took control with a 6-1 lead after the morning foursome matches. Team China started to make their move during the afternoon four ball matches with a 4 ½ – 2 ½ victory. While day one belonged to Southern California, it was Team China that came out victorious with a 9 ½ – 5 ½ victory in the day two singles matches. Team China retained the cup with a 15-14 victory over Southern California.

This years North/South Cup Matches that was contested at Fort Washington Golf & Country Club in Fresno California was full of exciting and tense moments! The South Team played some of their greatest rounds of golf that day and they were still scratching their heads trying to figure out how they lost by 1. The morning matches the North took an early lead by a score of 2 points. Early on during the afternoon matches the South was pulling ahead in the majority of the matches, but the North was not giving up making the South grind out every shot. With the last hole, came the win for the North with an 8 to 7 Victory!
The team from Southern California found themselves in familiar territory atop the leaderboard shooting a team best 6-under par 210 to take a commanding 7-stroke lead over the host Oregon team at the 42nd Hogan Cup Team Matches at Riverside Golf & Country Club in Portland, Ore.
The Girls Junior America’s Cup Team represented by Elizabeth Doty, Amy Alston, Beverly Vatananugulkit, Kaitlin Park, and captained by Nikki Gatch, finished sixth out of a field of 18 teams at Morgan Run Resort in Rancho Santa Fe. Congrats to the team for hanging in there and gaining some great experiences.
The Southern California Boys win the 38th Junior America’s Cup!!! In record smashing fashion, Xander Schauffele, JJ Holen, Jonathan Sanders and Matthew Negri combined to win this years event by 13 strokes. After a team first round of 3-over par, they played the next two rounds in a combined 24-under par and recorded 5 …scores in the 60′s! Congratulations Team!!!
This years 2010 Girls California State North/South Cup Matches was held at Poppy Hills Golf Course, in Pebble Beach California. The matches started out with a crisp Sunday Morning with an occasional fog rolling through the trees. Early on during the matches both teams were going back and forth trying to gain a strong lead. When the teams made the turn to the back nine, the momentum was starting to shift and the North was pulling ahead. The South put up a great fight, but in the end the North won 7 to 2.
