Thank you to everyone for your interest in the inaugural Drive, Chip and Putt Championship. Due to the overwhelming response we received, it was necessary to conduct a random drawing to determine the field for local qualifying in each region. Confirmation emails were sent last week to those selected in the random drawing from drivechipandputt@reply.usga.chtah.com. If you are unsure about whether or not your child has received a place in local qualifying, we ask that you click here {http://register.drivechipandputt.com/public_entry_lookup.aspx} and submit the email address that was used to complete the registration. Please note – many times these emails are delivered to the Junk Mail (spam) folder.
We will notify all participants of their status when the confirmation process is complete. It is still possible those who were not selected as part of the initial random drawing could be added to the field should spots open up due to declines. You will receive an email regarding your child’s status one way or the other as confirmations progress.
Thanks very much to everyone for your interest and understanding. We greatly appreciate everyone’s support of the Drive, Chip and Putt Championship!

This past Saturday May 4, 2013, the SCPGA JDL series stopped by Brea Creek Golf Course. We couldn’t have asked for a better day to run this event. The weather was picture perfect and had a nice cool breeze that swept through the valley of the course. The winds made the course play slightly more difficult but it didn’t seem to get in the way of several golfers that still played very solid. We ended up having a full field of 83 golfers and witnessed very impressive scores in all the age divisions.
The highlight of the day went to Eric Lee from the boys 11 & under age division. Eric shot the low round of the tournament, firing an impressive two over par (31). Other notable scores from the boys 11 & under division came from Sam Ng (34) and Nicolas Harrison (35). William Woodland was the winner of the boys 12 & over age division and shot a solid round of seven over par (36). Following close behind in second was Adam Alluis, Jaren Yang, and Sean Rawlings, all with scores of 37. The girls also played very well on this windy afternoon, led by Jane Ho who fired a solid round of six over par (35). Trailing close behind in second place for the girls 12 & over division was Bianca Camacho and Sarah Cruz, both shooting scores of 36. Sarah Mutai shot the low round for the girls 11 & under division with an impressive score of seven over par (36). Tied for second place were Milan Nguyen and Irene Park with nice rounds of eight over par (37). All the players in the field played exceptionally well and should be very proud of their results in these tough conditions.
We want to give a special thanks to Brea Creek Golf Course for letting us host this event at their facility. We would also like to thank the players and parents for their support of the SCPGA Junior Tour and we hope that everyone enjoyed watching these great junior golfers. Our next stop is this coming weekend at Marriott Manhattan Beach Golf Course on May 11, 2013. We hope to see you all there!
The Toyota Tour Cup traveled back to the desert this past weekend, May 4th & 5th, to host a 36 hole tournament at Desert Falls Country Club. The field of 67 players were faced with two different weather conditions, as Saturday was pushing the 100’s and Sunday was mild temperatures and breezy. The course was setup to test each player not only off the tee, but around the greens. The two day tournament came down to the wire with a dramatic finish as a playoff was needed to declare the boys champion.
The first round was full heat and a bunched up scoreboard as the boys division teed it up from 6,900 yards and the girls from 6,100 yards. Kristin Chang came in with an even par 72, leading by one stroke over Mackenzie Raim. Bella Setio rounded out the top three by posting a 74. In the boys division, four players posted rounds under par. Grant Calendar had low round of the tournament, shooting a 69. Storm Lee found himself only one shot shy from the lead after posting a 70. Oscar Baek and John Nichols found themselves in contention as well by shooting a one under 71.
The final round was a desirable mild day, with temperatures never exceeding 70 degrees. The final pairing for the boys division battled it out all day and the entire group, Grant Calendar, Storm Lee and Oscar Baek all came into the scoring tent with a 144 two day total. The three players had to go into a sudden death playoff to declare the champion. The three players went to hole 17, where Grant Calendar dropped a 20 foot putt on the first playoff hole to beat Baek’s and Lee’s par. Grant Calendar won his first TTC event after the exciting playoff finish. John Nichols was one shot shy (145) from joining the playoff. In the girls division, Mackenzie Raim from Palm Desert hung on to win after her stumble on the 16th hole. Raim took a triple bogey on 16, but recovered on hole 18 with a birdie and won by three shots (73-75). Kelly Lee and Angella Then both shot 75 on day two tied for second place with a 151 two day total.
The SCPGA would like to thank Desert Falls Country Club and Jennifer Dammeyer, LPGA for their support and allowing us to come host an event at their facility. We also would like to thank our sponsors for their continuous support; Toyota, Arrowhead Water, Under Armor and Clubglove. The Rules Officials that attended this event were a great assistance and as always are greatful for their involvement; Ron O’Connor, PGA, Keith Reinking, Gary Albin and Terry Startzel.
The next Toyota Tour Cup will be held at Desert Willow on May 18th & 19th.
The tenth and final Toyota Tour Cup series for the month of April was conducted at Classic Club in Palm Desert on April 27th-28th. The field battled warm weather that exceeded 100 degrees, which was present all weekend in the desert. The players got to test their skill on the challenging course, as Classic Club served as the host for the Bob Hope Classic PGA Tour event from 2007-2009. The boys division were playing at yardages set at 6,900 and 6,000 for the girls division.
The immaculate condition, firm & fast greens and consistent breeze were noticed throughout the two days while on the course. Day one, Oscar Baek of La Harba was the only player in the boys division to post a round under par, with a 70. This great round on a demanding course gave him a three shot lead over Ryan O’Connor and Sahith Theegala who both shot a 73. Four players posted a 74 and six players shot a 75. For the girls division, Brigitte Dunne shot a 75 to take the lead by two shots. In second place with a 77 was Mackenzie Raim, followed by Megan Kim with a 78.
The final round brought some shuffling around at the top of the leaderboard in the boys division. Sahith Theegala of Chino Hills came back with a 70 to take his two day total to 143. His under par round set him apart from the field and was crowned champion. Oscar Baek followed his day one lead with a 75, placing him in second and two shots shy from winning. Coming in third was Edwin Yi who went 74-73.
In the girls division, Brigitte Dunne went wire to wire to claim her second win of the season. The Camarillo native had a second round of 77 to claim the victory by one shot. Megan Kim and Mackenzie Raim were edged out with their two day total of 153 by Dunne. Kim (78-75) and Raim (78-75) were steady both days but came up just short at Classic Club.
The event was a success and we greatly appreciate being able to host an event at Classic Club and would like to thank the club and Jeff Grant, PGA for all of their assistance. The sponsors are always a large part of making the tournament possible and would like to thank Toyota, Arrowhead water and Antigua clothing. Finally, the rules official that are present every weekend are always a great assistance and help for a great event. We would like to thank Ron O’Connor, PGA, Keith Reinking, Gary Albin, Terry Startzel for their time.
The next Toyota Tour Cup series will be at Desert Falls Country Club on May 4th & 5th.
The SCPGA JDL program had a very busy weekend on April 27-28, 2013. We were very pleased to see so many junior golfers in the field, attempting to take home that first place trophy at Heartwell and the Parent/Junior Scramble @ Casta Del Sol. Heartwell had over 100 players in the field, our largest JDL event of the year to date. The following day in Mission Viejo we hosted the Parent/Junior Scramble tournament and saw some very low scores on the front nine at Casta Del Sol. These two events were very successful and everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves.
Heartwell Golf Course in Long Beach, California, had a great turnout of players and quality scores to go along with it. The highlight of the event belonged to none other than a girl from the 11 & under age division. Joshlyn Ayala from Walnut Park, tied the low round of the day and won her age division by four shots with an impressive round of three over par (30). Tying Joshlyn for the low round of the tournament was Adam Alluis from the boys 12 & over age division. Other notable scores included: Yonghee Shin (32), Winston Shen (33), and Ying Chen (34). Winston Shen from the boys 11 & under division won in a card off against Gabriel Navarro and Marvin Lin. Ying Chen won her division, girls 12 & over, by a single shot over Sophia Rim and Kendall Bainter.
The Parent/Junior Scramble tournament at Casta Del Sol on Sunday was another fun and very competitive event for our JDL program. We had one outright winner in Hogan and Andy Park at four under par (27). Coming in second place via winner of a card off was none other than YiYi and Chao Ouyang with an impressive three under par (28). There were sixteen teams lining the field with their chance to take down the first or second place prizes but these two teams of the Parks and Ouyangs proved to be too good to catch. We all had a great time and were happy to see parents get the chance to tee it up alongside their kids in an SCPGA sanctioned event.
The SCPGA Junior Tour would like to thank all the participants and parents from this past weekend for their support of junior golf and the SCPGA Foundation. We had a great time hosting these two events and we hope all the players enjoyed them as well. Our next stop will be this coming Saturday May 4, at Brea Creek Golf Course. There will be a large field there as well with over 80 players. We are excited to see more great golfing and we hope to see you all there!
