This past Monday & Tuesday of June 18th-19th, 2012 the SCPGA Junior Tour’s Toyota Tour Cup was at Primm Valley Golf Course. The Players were excited to bring a new facility into the rotation and try their skills on great golf courses. Primm Valley G.C. seemingly rises out of nowhere out by the Nevada-California state line, and the Desert Course gives players a sense of isolation where a golfer can enjoy the amazing desert landscape to its full extent.
Boys
1st Place- Victor Ponte, Camarillo
Victor with a solid two day showing put him at the top of the leader-board with a 71+70=141 (2 under par). Even though Victor shot a 70 (2 under par) the second day, he can contribute his win to not letting the day one winds get the best of him. With the first day having gust up to 30 mph just finishing was a good day. On the final day Victor had four birdies and one double bogey.
2nd Place- Peter Griffith, Westlake Village
Peter with a 75+68=143 (even par) battled his way back with a second place finish. His 75 (4 over par) on day one was just survival and staying in contention. On day two though he fired the low round of the tournament a 68 (4 under par). Peter started day two with 32 ( 4 under par) on his opening nine holes and then cruised in with an even par 36 on the back nine.
3rd Place- Greg Gonzalez, Riverside
Greg with a great showing tied for second but lost the card off. Greg fired a 71+72=143 (even par) and pushed his way up the leader board. Greg had nine birdies for the two days combined. On day one he shot a stellar 71 (even par) in the gusty winds of Primm.
Girls
1st Place- Michelle Yom, Torrance
Michelle held on to the victory with a 77+69=146 (3 over par). The first day was a struggle with the gust of winds. She stayed focused and on day two fired the low round of the tournament 69 (3 under par). Michelle had a total of nine birdies for the tournament.
2nd Place- Raegan Bremer, Anaheim Hills
Raegan put up a good fight with a 76+71=147 (4 over par), but fell short by a single stroke. Raegan shot a solid 35 (1 under par) on her final nine holes of the tournament. The gusty winds on day one might have made the difference with a stroke or two.
3rd Place- Isabelle Shee, Diamond Bar
Isabelle posted a 74+74=148 (5 over par). She was consistent in this tournament, with only 4 birdies but also had the least amount of bogeys too. Isabelle was leading after day one with the gnarly wind conditions. Isabelle has been consistently finishing up near the leader board this past season.
Thank you sponsors for all of your support!
Also, thank you Derrick Hunter (Director of Golf) and the entire Primm Valley Golf Club staff for being such gracious hosts. The golf course was fantastic and we cannot wait to return!
