The weekend of May 19th-20th, 2012, the SCPGA Junior Tour’s Toyota Tour Cup was at Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, California. Players tore apart the Celebrity Course which is ranked in the Top 20 “Best Courses You Can Play” in California by Golfweek Magazine. The Celebrity Course also hosted the 15th season of the Golf Channel’s Big Break series and twice hosted the PGA Tour’s Skins Game. Thank you to all who attended and bared the extreme heat!
Boys
1st Place- Gookmin Kim
, Pomona
Gookmin Kim finished atop the leader-board with a fantastic 71+67=138 (6 under par). Although Kim had a solid opening round, his win can be attributed to his second day round in which he carded six birdies, three of which were in a row. The treacherous greens of Indian Wells were no match for Kim and his flat-stick.
2nd Place- Thomas Lim, Moorpark
Thomas Lim fell just short of first place after posting a 71+68=139 (5 under par). He began the second day one shot out of first place and battled hard from the gate making seven birdies, four of which were in a row. However, Lim was left wanting more after making a double bogey under pressure on the 18th hole.
3rd Place- Justin De los Santos, Chatsworth
Justin De los Santos beat Max Alcorn and Norman Xiong in a scorecard playoff for third place after shooting a 73+67=140 (4 under par) in regulation. Although De los Santos opened the tournament with a 73, he made seven birdies in his second round to podium. Even more impressive was Justin’s second day back nine score of 31 (5 under par) which can be given the credit for his finish.
Girls
1st Place- Jisoo Park, Beaumont
Jisoo Park won the Girls divi
sion with a weekend scorecard totaling 68+75=143 (1 under par). Park was the only girl to break 70 either day as well as the only under par finisher in her division. After 5 birdies in her opening round, Park was able to coast in the second day for the win.
2nd Place- Haley Moore, Escondido
Haley Moore took a close second with a weekend score of 72+72=144 (even par). Moore’s podium finish can be attributed to consistent play. She dodged any large numbers and managed to stay at even par or better throughout her entire opening round.
3rd Place- Lydia Choi, Beverly Hills
Lydia Choi grabbed third place after shooting 72+73=145 (1 over par). Choi hovered around par throughout the weekend. She avoided any high numbers but cancelled out all of her birdies with bogeys. Choi finished two strokes ahead of the next competitor on the leader-board.
