Jake Knapp, SCPGA Junior Tour member, posted a 61 (10 under par) last Wednesday, May 16th, in a U.S. Open Local Qualifier at Newport Beach Country Club. Knapp’s outstanding round, which was the best score at any 2012 U.S. Open Local Qualifier across the United States, earned him medalist honors and a spot in the U.S. Open Sectional Qualifier, June 4th.
Knapp hit all 18 greens in regulation and his card reflected eight birdies and an eagle without any bogeys. He barely missed the course record (60) which is currently shared by Champions Tour players Nick Price (2011) and Tom Purtzer (2004) who both won the Toshiba classic in those years on the same course.
The southern California native will be attending UCLA in the fall of 2012 and joining SCPGA Junior Tour alumni Patrick Cantlay on the Bruins Men’s Golf Team. Great job Jake and good luck!
